In continuous moves to encourage further exports of IT services from Egypt, Dr. Mohamed Reda, Chairman of Allied Soft, oversaw a new initiative where twenty-eight pioneering IT companies and professionals joined forces to establish the Information Technology Export Community (ITEC). The ITEC represents a civil society with the goal to increase Egyptian companies’ capacity to export products and services, attract foreign investments, and make use of the growing Egyptian workforce. “Egypt has promising potential to undertake more projects than it currently does,” said Dr. Reda. “To this end, ITEC will work to secure the international permits, licenses and accreditations required for various sectors, provide training for staff, attract new investments, organize missions abroad, launch awareness campaigns, coordinate with related institutions, and enhance the quality of delivered products and services.” Dr. Reda further explained that countries such as India and Pakistan outpaced Egypt in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) even though Egypt has more capabilities in terms of skilled labor force and employment capacity.
ITEC will comprise leading companies such as ACT, MIST, IT Works, Arabize, AITS, MIS and TEA Computers, with board members comprising of officials from the government and representatives from foreign companies. The new initiative aims to improve the overall performance of IT companies as well as their workforce in compliance with international standards. In addition, it will operate as a management body to market different IT companies’ capacities to the international market.
